What can’t an orgasm do?
During orgasm, your brain releases oxytocin, dopamine, and endorphins simultaneously while cortisol drops. Blood flow increases across all regions of the brain not just isolated areas like during most other activities. Your pituitary gland activates. The parasympathetic nervous system engages. This isn’t a 2-minute event; the hormonal effects last for hours. Cortisol stays lower. Oxytocin lingers, which means your stress response is genuinely downregulated. Pain tolerance increases from the endorphin release. Dopamine improves motivation and mood regulation. Your prefrontal cortex gets sustained increased blood flow, which is why focus and decision-making improve measurably after. The immune system registers this as a signal that your body is resourced and healthy.
Biologically, an orgasm functions like a reset of your nervous system. It is a genuine downshift in your baseline stress state, improved cognitive function, and reduced pain signaling that persists through your day. Sexual pleasure is one of the few things that simultaneously improves mood regulation, cognitive performance, pain management, and immune function with low risk and high reward. If you go it solo, there are genuinely zero negative outcomes. Zero complications. Zero variables. If you’re not alone, the quality of aftercare and emotional context matters. So perhaps it is time to invest in some toys for one, it’s good for your health and as it turns out even your work performance.
